The Vancouver
Board of Trade is hosting a seminar on employing foreign workers, Thursday,
June 29 in Vancouver.
With the
shortage of skilled labour expected to increase in the next few years, many see
foreign workers as part of the solution. However, the labyrinth of regulations
that must be negotiated in order to hire a foreign worker for more than a year
is often prohibitive. Labour Market Opinions, Work Permits, Provincial Nominee
Programs and NAFTA Work Permits are some of the applications that must be dealt
with.
The seminar
will feature Jeffrey S. Lowe, Chief Inspirational Officer, Lowe and Company,
Canadian Immigration & Business Lawyers, and Craig K. Natsuhara, Senior
Associate, Davis & Company LLP.
The seminar is
designed to introduce business owners and managers to the various routes
available to bring foreign workers into the country, how long the different
routes take and what procedures are involved.
Among the
topics covered will be:
•
Timing and scheduling for bringing
foreign workers into the country
•
How to recruit and bring in foreign
trade workers
•
How to bring accountants and other
professionals in under NAFTA
•
Options to hire or retain foreign
workers who are already in Canada
•
Permanent residence versus temporary
working status
•
10 myths about hiring foreign workers
•
How to deal with complications
The seminar
will be held at the Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites, Stanley Park, Denman
Ballroom. Registration is at 7:30 a.m., with the program running from 7:45 to
9:45 a.m. June 29. The cost is $60 for board of trade members and guests, and
$85 for non-members.
