A weekend of serious accidents along Highway 99 culminated in a fatal car accident early Monday morning near Furry Creek.

Sarah Brabyn, a 26-year-old part-time Pemberton resident, died at the scene of the accident in which she appeared to lose control of the car she was driving and swerved into oncoming northbound traffic, where she was struck by a commercial vehicle.

According to police, there had been showers earlier that day and the roads were slippery.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was not injured. On Sunday there were two serious accidents involving motorcyclists on Highway 99.

Just before noon on Sunday two motorcycles collided at Magnesia Creek when the 54-year-old driver of a southbound Yamaha lost control and slid across the centre line into the rider of a northbound Harley Davidson, who was part of a large group of motorcyclists. The driver of the Yamaha was taken to Lions Gate Hospital with serious injuries.

Earlier that day, just before 8 a.m., another rider in a group of motorcyclists lost control on the highway at Daisy Creek, just south of Britannia Beach and went off the road into an embankment.

The 25-year-old driver was taken to Lions Gate Hospital with serious injuries and the 23-year-old female passenger received serious injuries including a severed leg. She was air lifted to Vancouver General Hospital.

Also on Sunday morning a 28-yer-old Kamloops driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act and issued a 24-hour driving prohibition after rear ending a vehicle, which was stopped at a construction zone at Kelvin Grove..

Police said traffic volumes were very high during the weekend and there were other vehicle accidents in the Whistler and Pemberton areas.
