FranzÕs Trial to host Saturday market

Organizers registering tables for local food, art and craft market

Residents and visitors to WhistlerÕs south end will now have a market of their own.

The FranzÕs Trail Merchants Association is launching the FranzÕs Outdoor Market on July 9, a weekly event that will run each Saturday until the Labour Day weekend. The market will feature locally grown, made or baked foods; arts, crafts and wellness vendors; and other family entertainment including live performances.

"The Outdoor Market is really a grass roots initiative among the merchants at FranzÕs Trail," said Barry Rosstrom, the chairman of FranzÕs Trail Merchants Association. "Working together with the merchants we believe we can help create something really exciting down here.

"Over time and as awareness builds, we envision that Whistler will be considered to be a weekend market destination Ð both in Creekside and at the Blackcomb base Ð adding additional value to the overall resort experience."

Not only will the market create an event for the community; it will also increase awareness of FranzÕs Trail and the shops and services available in the recently finished shopping area.

Organizers are accepting applications from vendors who would like to book a stall at the market. Prices vary from gold packages, which is $25 a week for a 6-foot square space or $35 a week for a 10X10 stall for all nine weeks, to bronze packages where a 6X6 stall is $35 a week, and a 10X10 stall is $45 a week for between one and four market dates.

"With plenty of parking available, the combination of existing shops and market merchants, and the festive atmosphere we are trying to create, we believe that the FranzÕs Trail Outdoor Market will be a huge success this coming summer," said Rosstrom.
