Freestylers tops in the province

The Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club wrapped up yet another successful season last weekend with the B.C. Championships at Silverstar Resort in Vernon.

The Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club wrapped up yet another successful season last weekend with the B.C. Championships at Silverstar Resort in Vernon.

In the youth women’s moguls contest, Whistler’s Keltie Hicks finished second, winning the overall provincial series title in the process. Devon Krainer was fifth and Emily Higgins finished 12 th overall.

In the tough youth men’s moguls, Zack Glanzberg finished 21 st .

Eddie Hicks was 10 th among the juvenile men.

In the Junior Women’s contest, Christina Ortero finished second and won the provincial and Grand Prix Ladies Moguls series as well.

Andrew Clough was fifth among the junior men.

In the table top big air contest, Keltie Hicks was sixth, Krainer was 10th and Higgins 11 th .

Glanzberg was 13 th in his category, and Eddie Hicks was fifth among the juvenile men.

In dual moguls competition, Keltie won another silver medal, while Krainer was fifth and Higgins ninth.

Glanzberg and Clough each put together a series of solid runs to finish in fifth place in their respective age categories.

In the halfpipe, which is a new event for the provincial series, Keltie finished second one again, while Higgins was fifth.

The top provincial athletes often go on to compete in Nor Am and nationals level competitions, where the top competitors are selected for the national development team.

The Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club provides training for kids 10 and over, using the facilities on Whistler and Blackcomb.
