There’s a sow with two cubs accessing garbage in the Function Junction area.

Conservation Officer Simon Gravel wants to get the word out about the trio to prevent the mother bear from getting hooked on garbage. He said he’s had a few complaints about the bear and there’s evidence littered around the forested areas bordering Function suggesting at least one bear is successfully pulling garbage out of bins.

“It’s very important for the residents, the workers and visitors of Function Junction to be very, very vigilant in terms of attractants,” said Gravel.

He added the sow is mainly feeding on natural sources but she is occasionally turning to human food sources.

Gravel is encouraging everyone to remove all garbage from vehicles, remove bear attractants and keep doors and windows closed and locked.

Last summer, two bears that entered homes were deemed public dangers. They were put down.
