Gates Lake Community Park will reap the rewards from a $9,767.82 grant from CN for landscaping and tree planning.
The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) was one of 31 communities in Canada chosen from 92 applicants for grants from the CN EcoConnexions — From the Ground Up program.
In a press release, the SLRD detailed that 21 Douglas maple trees will be planted at Gates Lake Community Park in order to provide screening, shade and erosion control. As well, 243 shrubs and groundcover will be planted. Among the species are serviceberry, redtwig, dogwood, thimbleberry, snowberry, red huckleberry and Wood's rose.
The park's lawn will also be serviced with aeration, fertilizer and top-dressed with soil.
The CN EcoConnexions program seeks to promote community sustainability with the help of its partners Tree Canada and Communities in Bloom.
