Getting a spot in the 2010 Test of Metal mountain bike race won't be easy, but there are a few things you can do to improve your chances of making it in when registration opens on New Year's Day.
Some 200 spots have already been snapped up in a locals-only registration at the start of December. 800 more spots will likely be sold out within hours of online registration opening at 6 p.m. on Jan. 1. The drill is the same as last year, with no waitlists and no refunds.
Registration is available online at www.testofmetal.com. To improve your chances of getting in, it might be a good idea to work together with a few friends to sign on, as anyone who gets through to the registration page will be able to sign up to four people. If all four people try to get through at the same time and can stay in contact with each other their chances of getting in will improve.
The Test of Metal course is over 67 kilometres from start to finish with roughly 1,200 metres of vertical climbing. Almost half of the course is on technical Squamish singletrack, including famous descents like the Powerhouse Plunge.
