Good crowd for King of the Rail

There are only two King of the Rail rail jam contests this season because of the other major event going on in February (hint: it starts with "O") so riders made the first event of the season on Dec. 30 count.

There are only two King of the Rail rail jam contests this season because of the other major event going on in February (hint: it starts with "O") so riders made the first event of the season on Dec. 30 count.

The winners were decided by the athletes themselves after an hour and half jam under the lights at the base of Blackcomb. Cash prizes were awarded based on the number of entries, although all the skiers and riders taking part were eligible to win draw prizes donated by Telus, Nintendo, DNA, Atomic and Showcase Snowboarders.

The biggest prize winner was Steven Kopyt, competing in the Snowboard Male 16 and Over category. His moves were good for $100.

Yu Sasaki won Ski Male 16 and Over and $30 and Zack Dolesky took home $20 in Snowboard Male 15 and Under. Winning $15 were Dillan Gillespie in Ski Male 15 and Under, Jenny Strong in Ski Female 16 and Over and Cynthia Brassard in Snowboard Female 16 and Over.

The overall King of the Rail winner was Clinton Cameron. Trevor Procyshyn won the draw prize for the Nintendo Wii.

The next and final King of the Rail event takes place on Jan. 16.
