The gypsy sound will be drawing dancers to the floor at the annual spring fundraiser at The Point Artist-Run Centre.
Vancouver's Swing2Beat will be playing the gypsy jazz manouche style of Django Reinhardt as part of the evening, a mix of art, theatre, music and food.
"They've not performed here before. I really love gypsy jazz and I wanted to throw it into the mix," says the Point's artistic director Stephen Vogler.
"I've heard them play."
The evening is billed as A Midsummer Night's Murder Mystery and will raise funds for The Point's programming throughout the year, such as children's arts camps, the two community arts festivals the Point puts on each summer and winter, and other programming.
"The Point has been growing a lot and this is why want it to be more substantial," says Vogler.
The dinner is new this year.
"Our great chef and supporter Michelle Bush had been wanting to put on one of her murder mystery dinners in the old lodge and I thought we can marry that with the fundraiser. She has put many on over the years," says Vogler.
"I'm not sure what I'm supposed to give away or not give away, but I know that we are serving five exquisite courses paired with five B.C. wines. We thought we'd step it up this year, get a little fancy.
"Some of the courses will be stations and some are sitdowns."
The fundraiser takes place on Saturday, June 18, at 6 p.m. at the centre on Alta Lake.
There is also a silent auction and live art auction with works by Hugh Kearney, Lisa Geddes, Jeff Heintzman, Christina Nick, Marcelle Armitage and others.
Chris Quinlan will act as auctioneer.
"We've been doing a live art auction these past few years, (and) I discovered that Chris is really good at it. He can talk at 100 miles an hour," Vogler says.
Tickets are $75 and include the murder mystery theatre, dinner, wine pairings, craft beer tasting, music, Point membership and more.
Tickets can be purchased at www.thepointartists.com and Armchair Books in Whistler Village.
