Half Marathon reopens registration with 50 spots

Registration to reopen on April 27 at 10 a.m.

Due to demand, the North Face Whistler Half Marathon is reopening registration on April 27 at 10 a.m., releasing 50 additional spots to the 21.1 km race.

"The number of inquiries from disappointed runners was incredible, it really forced us to look at all aspects of the race to understand if there was any way to increase the cap of registered runners," said race director Dave Clark. "We heard from dozens of disappointed athletes in the days immediately following the selling out of the event, and we have responded to address some of the demand."

The race sold out all 750 spots with just five minutes remaining in the early bird deadline on Mar. 31. With elite categories and sponsors there will be roughly 800 people at the start line on Saturday, June 4.

While the number of runners may increase in the future, organizers wanted to see how well the course could handle 800 runners.

"We would love to be able to take everyone who is interested, but athlete experience and safety are our number one concerns and this is the reason for the cap," said Clark.

More information on the run, including the final race route, is posted at www.whistlerhalfmarathon.com.
