On Monday, Sept. 22, two two-hour closures will take place on the Sea to Sky Highway for rock stabilization work in the Porteau Cove area, between Squamish and West Vancouver.
The work will take place in the area where a massive slide occurred on July 28, closing the highway for five days as the overhanging cliffs were blasted and debris was removed.
The first closure is from 10 a.m. to noon, and the second from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The cost of clearing the slide is still being determined by the Ministry of Transportation, as receipts are still coming in from contractors involved in the cleanup. The economic impact for Whistler, which was almost empty over the long weekend, is also still being determined.
Nobody was injured in the slide, although a Perimeter bus was damaged when debris started to fall from the bluff. The slide occurred in an area where no construction was taking place. The cause of the slide has not been determined.
