Miller Capilano Maintenance Corporation is putting in some extra effort to get roads ready for Ironman training and the event itself.

In an article in the July 2 edition of Pique, Squamish's Tim Moore — who is preparing for the July 26 Subaru Ironman Canada — detailed issues with the highways in frequented training areas. Since then, Miller Capilano confirmed the company is responding to concerns, including doing work on Callaghan Road.

"We did do some bridge approach settlement repair on the Callaghan Rd. to provide a smoother ride for the cyclists and in preparation for the Ironman," Miller Capilano operations manager Larry Paradis said in an email.

Stitches get to Pagot in Zermatt

Despite major efforts to get fit for the World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships in Zermatt, Switzerland, things didn't fall into place for ultra trail runner Vincent Pagot.

Representing Canada, the Whistler resident finished 54th out of 55 competitors.

With the first half of the marathon-length course on flat pavement — not a Pagot specialty — he knew he would be in tough from the get-go. However, recurring stitches also often slowed him down in the race.
