Residences in Squamish were evacuated after a stash of industrial grade explosives and detonators were found by an RCMP police dog on Wednesday morning (May 2).
A dog and RCMP handler were searching a trail area in Dentville on a separate, ongoing investigation, when a suspect package containing the explosives was found at around 11 a.m.
The area, behind the 38000 block of Britannia Avenue, was cordoned off and nearby residences cleared for safety. The explosive disposal unit safely removed the material, which was followed by a second search of the scene to ensure all explosives had been found and removed. After 4.5 hours, the area was deemed safe.
If anyone has information relating to this or any other crimes, they are encouraged to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
