The six competing crews for Intersection, the action filmmaking competition now in its seventh year at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival (WSSF), have been named.

Teams make a five- to seven-minute ski or snowboard film within 100 km of Whistler, and include 30 seconds of park footage and 30 seconds of Whistler Blackcomb in-bound terrain.

All of the filming needs to be shot within seven days.

The teams are:

Ottawa/Gatineau free skiers Gapers Gone Wild, who have been documenting their exploits for nearly 10 years; Whistler team Greybirds, who have created the four-part web series "What's Not To Love?"; Happy Place Films, which is releasing its first feature-length movie at the end of the 2017 season; The Hood Crew, from Mt. Hood, Ore., is known for its urban and mountain ski movies; Lords of Whistler, a group of friends who document their adventures; and Whistler's RK Films, which brings cinematic storytelling to action sports.

The teams are competing for Best in Show and a $10,000 grand prize. The completed films will be shown to an audience of 1,500 at the Whistler Conference Centre on Friday, April 14. Doors open at 8 p.m.

Tickets are available at www.wssf.com.

Arts centre rezoned

The Resort Municipality of Whistler is rezoning the Maury Young Arts Centre (MYAC) to anticipate existing and proposed uses of the facility in terms of the sale of works by local artists.

Currently, sales are made through MYAC's gift store and during its ongoing arts exhibitions.

Council had its first and second readings at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, March 21, and scheduled a public meeting on the rezoning at the April 11 council meeting at 6 p.m.

The rezoning will "legitimize limited retail sales of art from MYAC."

The rezoning is in line with the resort's Community Cultural Plan, in particular providing opportunities for local artists to showcase and develop their work, earn income, and revise existing bylaws that prohibit sales through home-based studios.
