Intrawest plans Blue Mountain Westin

Intrawest has announced plans to build and maintain a luxury, 222-suite Westin condominium hotel at Blue Mountain, Ontario as part of its Village at Blue development.

Intrawest has announced plans to build and maintain a luxury, 222-suite Westin condominium hotel at Blue Mountain, Ontario as part of its Village at Blue development.

Last week Intrawest reached an agreement with Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide to operate the hotel under the Westin flag. Called the Westin Trillium House, the hotel will be at the heart of the new development, opening its doors in summer of 2005.

"Typically, the arrival of an internationally recognized brand hotel signifies true destination status for a resort," said Lorne Bassel, the executive vice-president of Intrawest’s Resort Development Group.

"Westin is renowned for service excellence, and will now be able to offer a guest experience at Blue Mountain that is equal to our other world class resorts."

The design for the hotel is inspired by the Georgian Bay Lakeside cottages. There will be 10,000 square feet of meeting space, and a year-round indoor/outdoor aquatic centre.

Each of the suites, including the 1,482 square foot Presidential Suite, is available for sale by reservation only. This is expected to be a hot item as everything else in the village has already sold out.

The Village and Blue Mountain development covers 32-acres and features restaurants, stores and more. The project is scheduled for completion in 2010.
