Zed Dhalla moved from fifth to second overall in the final standings of the NSCU Sea to Sky Junior Golf Tours senior division (15-18 years old) by winning the tour finale Aug. 22 at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club.
Dhalla shot an 80 on a beautiful but somewhat windy day. The wind had an effect on the scoring for the day, which in turn meant the season point totals were decided in the last few holes.
His victory at the Chateau Whistler Golf Club gave Dhalla 58 points for the season, just one less than overall winner Matt Powell of Squamish. Playing out of the Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club, Powell had two wins, a second and a third last week at the Fairmont course to score 59 points in just four events.
Third place in the series was a tie between Stefano Sidonio and Jesse Watt. The points system counted the best four finishes for each golfer out of the possible six events.
None of this years players are 18 yet, so all are expected to return and compete again next year.
In the junior division, Casey Svejkovsky turned in the low score of the day at the Chateau Whistler Golf Club, a 77.
The final point totals had Ethan Fairley winning the overall title in the 11 to 14 age division and Brett Kelly in second place.
Meanwhile, at the Pemberton Valley Golf Club on Aug. 17, Jesse Watt scored the low round of 79 to win the Senior 15-18 Division. He was followed by Mark McKenzie and Matt Powell, who tied for second with scores of 82, while Max von Kleist was third with an 84.
In the Novice 11-14 Division, the top spot went to Max Steiner with an 86, followed by Patrick McEachran and Johann Peterson with identical rounds of 87. Alex Sykora was third with an 89.
With the North Shore Credit Union as sponsor, the golf courses in the Sea to Sky corridor have been supporting junior golf through the Sea to Sky Junior Golf Tour for several seasons. Organizers hope to grow the tour in both number of players and number of events in the years ahead.
