Society holding fundraising initiative July 27 at Creekbread

The Zero Ceiling Society of Canada announced this week that Kasi Lubin is the organization's new executive director.

"Kasi comes to us with a vast array of experience and knowledge in the non-profit and event sectors and we are thrilled to have her at the helm of our organization," said Glenn Mishaw, Chair of the Board of Directors for Zero Ceiling.

Established in 1997 by founder and pro-skier Chris Winter, the Zero Ceiling Society of Canada is a charitable society that offers innovative sports and work programs to at-risk youth and street youth. Through adventure-based learning, employment skills training and personal development, Zero Ceiling has made a difference for over 4,000 youth that have gone through our programs.

"Kasi has years of experience working with youth and has developed strong relationships within our community during the 10-years that she has lived in Whistler. We are very excited to have a new executive director in place to insure our programs and community profile continue to grow. Kasi has the energy, enthusiasm and desire to see that Zero Ceiling continues to play a positive role in the lives of at risk youth for years to come. As executive director, Kasi will help refine our existing programs and create new directions for our organization."

"I am very excited to take on this new challenge and very proud to be able to represent Zero Ceiling in a leadership role.," Lubin said in a release. "Working with youth is something that I have always been extremely passionate about and I look very forward to providing our youth the opportunity to participate in some truly life changing experiences."

Lubin is the co-founder of the Whistler Film Festival and has also held positions with the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation, the Whistler Arts Council, the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival and the Whistler Chamber of Commerce. Kasi is an active volunteer and holds an honorary position on the board of the Whistler Film Festival.

Zero Ceiling offers two main programs: the Day Visit Program and the Work to Live Program. The Day Visit program is an opportunity for disadvantaged and at-risk youth to try something they would never otherwise have the opportunity to experience. Youth are invited to Whistler or Grouse Mountain for a day of outdoor adventure that can encompass any one of snowboarding, mountain biking, white water rafting, hiking, canoeing, sailing or cross country skiing. The visits are themed around a model of positive youth development created by leading psychologists and educators.

Zero Ceiling's Work to Live program focuses on alpine sports as an alternative to unhealthy life "choices." Zero Ceiling works closely with youth agencies throughout B.C. to identify youth who are ready to turn their lives around.

As a welcome to Kasi in her new role, the Zero Ceiling Board of Directors would like to invite the public to come say hello and meet the Zero Ceiling team that is so passionate about giving disadvantaged and youth at-risk an opportunity for positive change. This event will be a Zero Ceiling fundraising initiative and will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. at Creekbread restaurant on Tuesday, July 27 th , 2010.
