The Whistler Public Library marks its 10th anniversary Sunday in a joint celebration with the Whistler Museum and Archives Society.

The Whistler Public Library marks its 10th anniversary Sunday in a joint celebration with the Whistler Museum and Archives Society. The library has seen tremendous growth in users since its 1994 move from the basement of municipal hall to its present, temporary, trailer facility on Main Street in Village North. Despite that, the library still gets by on some of the lowest per capita funding in the province. From 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 29 there will be a variety of community events, including a puppeteer, face painting, balloons, clowns, jugglers and a gigantic birthday cake. Whistler harpist Alison Hunter will be playing inside the library. The festivities include contests for kids and a chance to win a special lunch date with the fire department. For older kids, a quiz involving 10 research/skill testing questions is an opportunity to test your knowledge and win gift certificates. Drop by the library before Sunday to pick up an entry form. In addition to the entertainment the celebration provides an opportunity to check out the library and its collection. Local dignitaries have also listed their 10 favourite books, which should make interesting reading in itself.
