The group, which includes the RCMP, meets on the last Wednesday of every month at 8 a.m. at the Westin Hotel.
The WHLPA was founded by Clive Hamdorff, the loss prevention manager for the Westin, and has grown to become an integral part of loss prevention throughout Whistler. For more information call Hamdorff at 604 698 0164.
Missing hikers located
It took just a couple of hours March 15 to locate two locals reported overdue from a hike on the Spearhead Trail.
The two men had told friends and family where they were going and when to expect them. That crucial information, said RCMP, made the rescue a lot easier.
It appears the hikers went off the trail and got turned around, ending up in some very rough terrain where they were stranded.
Take your ski boots off
Police want to remind drivers to take their ski and snowboard boots off before getting behind the wheel.
Last Sunday a vehicle being driven by a man with ski boots on hit a parked car, causing that vehicle to hit several other cars. There were no other people in the cars, which were struck in the day lots near Blackcomb Way and fortunately the damage was minor.
Driving with ski or snowboard boots on can cause loss of control of the vehicle and police can charge operators with Driving Without Due Care and Attention. The offence carries a fine of $368.
Upgrades to the Sea to Sky highway will prevent any further debris flows striking the highway where last weekends mudslide occurred just south of Lions Bay.
"We are putting up a retaining wall as part of the construction," said Ministry of Transportation spokeswoman Susan Gee.
" If that wall had been up there would not have been a problem."
A 6 metre deep debris flow came down the Turpin Creek drainage around 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning and shut the highway completely for six hours. A driver was trapped in the slide but uninjured.
