Local runners at Kelowna and Portland marathons

A group of Whistler runners took part in the Portland Marathon and the Kelowna Marathon and Half Marathon last weekend. In Portland, Paul Nicholas, 34, finished 79 th out of more than 3,000 men with his time of two hours, 59 minutes and 48 seconds.

Richard Shallard of Pemberton, 40, finished his first marathon in 4:46:07.

At Kelowna, four locals participated in the full marathon.

David Higgins finished 108 th overall in the 30 to 39 age category with a time of 3:27:19.

In the same age category, Ray Bernoties, a member of the Whistler RCMP, was 224 th in 3:41:45.

Brandi Higgins was 531 st , and 188 th among women in the 30 to 39 race, finishing in 4:17:29.

Darlene Knapton finished in 5:39:37.

In the half marathon, Tammy Lea Shore posted a time of 1:52:58. Joan Patterson came in at 1:56:04, followed closely by Susie Douglas at 1:56:54.

Jaralee Budge finished in 2:09:28 and Mike Knapton in 2:15:32.
