Local shutter bugs top Search

Local photographers have once again topped the list of finalists for the Pro Photographer Search.

Local photographers have once again topped the list of finalists for the Pro Photographer Search.

Two of the finalists include veterans from last year’s competition, Blake Jorgenson of Whistler and Sweden’s Terese Lundgren, who also resides in Whistler.

Three of the remaining four finalists also make their home in the area: Ilya Herb (Pemberton), Jeff Corbett (Whistler) and Dean Cote (Whistler). Ruben Sanchez of King Beach, Calif. Is the other finalist.

Even though entries were received from as far away as Japan and Brazil, judges felt these six offered the best validation and celebration of the sport lifestyle. Entries were chosen on technical proficiency and on the subjective feelings that the images invoked. Photographers’ identities were hidden, proving that Whistler is one of the best places in the world to provide incredible scenery, top athletes, and artistic inspiration.

The third annual Pro Photographer Search competition takes place April 16th and 17 th at Merlin’s. The winner of the Pro Photographer Search will take part in the Pro Photographer Showdown on April 19, where there work will be matched against J. Grant Brittain, Jeff Divine, Mark Gallup and Joe McBride. Both photo events are part of the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival, which takes place April 13-22 in Whistler.
