The turnout was down for the Gravity Fest Mountain Bike Festival in Rossland last weekend but still pretty solid for the fourth B.C. Cup of the 2003 season. Some 131 riders raced in the cross-country event, and 135 in the downhill. In both categories, the majority of racers competed in the elite and expert divisions.
As always, Whistler riders held their own and then some, finishing on the podium in both events.
In cross-country, Brandon Semenuk finished in fourth place in the Under 15 race with a time of one hour, 12 minutes and 15 seconds, just 3:51 back of the leader.
In the Under 17 Expert Mens race, James Crowe took the gold once again with a time of 1:22:50, and a gap time of 2:19.
Norco team rider Brook Baker finished in fourth in the Junior/Under 17 Expert Womens race, 5:36 back of the leader.
In the Elite Mens race, Rocky Mountain Bicycles and Harbour Air rider Tyler West finished in fourth place, 8:51 back of the leader. For the first time this season, Trevor Hopkins was a DNF.
Giant Bicycles rider Angela Teng was second in the Elite Womens event with a time of 2:13:27, 6:02 back of the leader.
In the Master 40 and Over Expert Mens race, Eric Crowe, riding for Kona and the Glacier Shop, finished just 23 seconds back of the leader to take the silver.
In the downhill on Sunday, Brook Baker raced unopposed to take the gold with a time of 4:36.76.
