Vancouver real estate agent Peter Dupuis hopes Whistler will embrace a one-for-one housing gifting model to help people in the developing world roofs over their heads.

He will be outlining his involvement in World Housing at a Whistler cocktail reception at Elements Urban Tapas between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on April 1.

"Last June, we did a beta testing site for a project in Waikiki, called the Residences of Waikiki and we did a small group of 60 sales to just test the concept with the buyer," said Dupuis from his office in Vancouver.

At the same time, the sales team on the project donated the money to start a factory in Cambodia to produce housing for people in desperate need of it.

In addition to providing the housing, Dupuis said it created employment and construction training opportunities for young people who were making their living by picking through a landfill in Cambodia.

With more than 60 houses built in Cambodia, Dupuis said World Housing is now preparing to build houses in Manila, Philippines and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

According to Dupuis, the model he is using works. "My research shows that homes will sell quicker because of World Housing," said Dupius.

World Housing uses a one-for-one real estate gifting model to build housing for poor people in Third World countries. For every luxury home sold at one of Dupuis' certified World Housing condominium projects, a home is built by a non-governmental organization dedicated to building housing for families living in a garbage dump community.
