Whistler Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden is unhappy with provincial plans to increase the length of the council term from three to four years.
"I am going to ask my council to consider a resolution concerning the announcement," the mayor said at Tuesday's budget open house. "I don't think any of us are terribly happy about it.
"To say that we're surprised by this announcement is a bit of an understatement."
This week the B.C. government announced it would introduce legislation during the spring session to change local elections from a three to a four-year cycle, beginning with the 2014 elections.
The extension was approved at last year's Union of B.C. Municipalities convention.
It is not clear if this could impact Whistler council members' decisions to run again in the November's election. If the legislation were approved, the next election following this November's would be in 2018.
This would also apply to school boards and regional districts.
