Boot drive raise $5K for MD Local firefighters raised more than $5,500 for The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada with their annual Boot Drive. Although the fire department had taken a few years off to concentrate on raising funds for local charities, this total more than doubles the previous record of $2,500 for MD research. "I guess people opened their hearts, and their purses, to help out," says organizer Doug Hart. "I don't think we could have asked for a better turnout. We filled a lot of boots. "I have to thank, the mountains, the municipality, the other firefighters who volunteered their time and all the pubs, bars and nightclubs who helped out."
