The ground will be shaking next weekend when the 12 th annual Jazz and Blues Festival storms into Whistler.

Headlining the program in the conference centre Underground is the Juno Award-winning Metalwood. This quartet brings jazz into the 21 century with their unique electric style.

Bassist Chris Tarry, drummer Ian Froman, trumpeter/keyboardist Brad Turner and saxophonist Mike Murley are each stand-out performers on their own, recording over a dozen previous albums between them as bandleaders and instrumentalists.

That these North American musicians were brought together is a stroke of luck. Although the four call opposite ends of the continent home, it was obvious fate had something bigger in store when they crossed paths four years ago. Almost instantly personal connections between the distinct personalities evolved into the jazz-rock fusion that has pushed Metalwood to the top of contemporary jazz. Two Junos, a third nomination and a new distribution deal with Universal Music (the label’s first pick for 2001) proves Metalwood has got mettle.

Tickets for the Sept. 15 show are now on sale. For tickets and complete details on the Jazz and Blues Festival, visit the Whistler Activity Centre.
