Michael Franti to perform at Wanderlust Whistler

Nahko and Medicine for the People, High and Mighty Brass Band also play at summer festival

American musician and rapper Michael Franti has been confirmed to perform at Wanderlust Whistler.

Franti, performing with his band Spearhead, is headlining the festival, on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Whistler Olympic Plaza. The show starts at 7pm.

Wanderlust Whistler takes place from July 30 to Aug. 3.

Also performing during the festival is Nahko and Medicine for the People, and High and Mighty Brass Band.

Wanderlust Whistler will bring together yoga, meditation and lifestyle instructors, along with performers and chefs in a retreat aimed at rejuvenating mind, body and soul.

WSSF's Intersection seeks expressions of interest

Action skiing and snowboarding film competition Intersection 2015 is looking for Expressions of Interest.

A headline event at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival, Intersection has up to eight spots available and a grand prize of $10,000 for the team that wins Best in Show.

The competition, which has teams submitting five-to-seven-minute sports films, is in its fifth year.

Final edits of the team films must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 3.

In celebration of the 20th Annual World Ski & Snowboard Festival, film crews will bring their skiing and snowboarding footage from around the globe to Whistler's big screens on Friday, April 17.

The deadline is Thursday, March 5, with Expressions of Interest to be sent to Jaime Kerrigan at jkerrigan@watermarkinc.ca.

Looking for artists who need work spaces

Temporary space may be available for Whistler or Sea to Sky artists looking for studio space in the resort.

Anne Popma, Community Cultural Officer, has created an Artist's Studio Survey to assess the needs of local artists in looking for affordable working spaces.

The proposed pilot project, which could last four or five months, is expected to take place in the spring.

Nominate a Whistler arts champion

The Whistler Arts Council is seeking nominations for the 2015 Whistler Champion of Arts & Culture Award.

The deadline is Wednesday, April 15.

Each June, the award is presented as part of the Whistler Excellence Awards at a celebration hosted by the Whistler Chamber of Commerce.

Nominations can be made by members of the cultural community in Whistler, including artists and artistic, cultural and heritage organizations, or a cultural organization or group.

Eligible recipients could be a business, organization or business leader who demonstrates exceptional leadership in encouraging partnerships between businesses and the arts, an individual who actively works or volunteers locally and has made significant contributions to enhance arts, culture and heritage in Whistler.

Also eligible are individual artists who have enriched the community through their talent and commitment to visual, literary, media, performing arts or heritage.
