The sun was out with a vengeance for the 20 th anniversary of the Mouton Cadet Spring Festival, which was good because many of the competitors in the Restaurant Race needed all the edging they could get. The snowboard course on Sunday in particular was challenging, with steep angles between gates, and lumpy whoop-dee-doos that dumped more than a few competitors on their fannies, or caused others to miss a gate.
In the annual Passholder ski race on Saturday, where competitors had to guess their times, first place went to Anna Schaeffer who was dead on up to a thousandth of a second.
Stephen Kennedy made the next best guess, 0.02 seconds back of his predicted time There was a three way tie for third, with Mary Spencer Steve Nunn, and Patrick Duffy finishing within 0.03. Another four racers tied for fourth 0.04 seconds off to round out the top ten. They were Nora Hope, Wendy Harrison, Robby Trussler and Bruce Steele.
The fastest female was Wendy Harrison, and the fastest male Tom Charron. Best costume awards went to Walter Dorken, Nicole Dorken and Jules Lajoie.
In the restaurant and media races on the following day, where combined times from co-ed teams of three skiers or snowboarders determined the winners.
In the snowboard division of the Mouton Restaurant Race, Il Caminetto Di umberto finished in first anchored by World Cup racer Alexa Loo and locals Anton Fruehurth and Steve Maile.
Fasta Pasta was second with Cori Olafson, Geoff Mott and Stephane Gagne. Third went to the Rim Rock Hammerheads with Vera Masse, Dave Lunghammer and Ryan Odriscoll.
The ski race, which included some snowboarders, was divided between teams from Vancouver and Whistler.
In the Whistler division, first place went to the Old Spaghetti Factory "Spagtaculars" team of Sue Bateman, Alan Aube and Charles Bedard. Bateman also posted the fastest Whistler time for a female, clearing the skier course in 19.97 seconds.
In second place were the Earls Nightmares, with Cara Dolan, Cam Fellows and Ryan Connelly.
The Delta Demons were in third, with Dale Brandon, Sanae Tanaka and June Southwell.
The fastest male competitor, with a time of 18.40, was Kenny White.
In the Vancouver division, 900 West Vancouver Hotel finished on top with the team of Elyse Levesque, Luc Bordeleau and Joseph Schefer.
The Speedy Europeans, from J.J.s Restaurant at Vancouver Community College, finished in second place with the team of Carolyn Brown, Bob Fesit and Ernst Wallgram. Brown was also the fastest woman in 25.34 seconds.
In third was the Pan Pacific A Team of Gerry Sayers, Ernst Dorfler and Hans Bierhofer.
The fastest man was Hakehiro Hosei from the Four Seasons.
The media division of the race went to Team 1040, which included Sanae Tanaka, Patrick Maloney and Russel Clark. Team R&R was second, featuring Dale Ridington, Jamie Ridington and David Laronde. Alison Page, Paul McGrath and Graham Page from the North Shore were third.
