A handful of Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) employees have joined the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

"The facility maintenance employees of the Meadow Park Sport Centre (MPSC), part of the (RMOW) Recreation Program, have voted in favour of joining (CUPE) local 2010," an RMOW spokesperson confirmed in an email.

Six full-time employees, two permanent part-time employees and some casual staff are now part of the union.

"Collective bargaining with this department will take place in the future to include the specific terms and conditions for facility maintenance employees in the existing collective agreement," the RMOW said.

"The existing overall terms and conditions of the existing collective agreement with CUPE, which also includes the Utilities, Wastewater Treatment Plant and Central Services departments, do not change."

In a press release, CUPE 2010 confirmed 18 maintenance workers would be joining in total, including Zamboni drivers, mechanics and pool operators.

"We're really pleased to welcome these workers into our local," CUPE 2010 president Pete Davidson said in the release.

"We look forward to bargaining for them in the upcoming year."

The MPSC staff will join 45 RMOW employees already represented by CUPE 2010.
