Ben Haggar Deep Summer fan fave

After a week of online voting, Ben Haggar took home the People's Choice Award for the Deep Summer Photo Challenge.

"When something you have been hoping for is realized you almost don't want to do it because you could mess it up. So, I knew I wanted to come out, and I knew what I wanted to do, but I was nervous," said Haggar, who took home a $3,500 prize.

"I just love the creativity of finding a beautiful piece of forest and working with what that hillside has to offer," he said in a release.

Tommy Wilkinson was earlier selected by judges to take home the first prize of Best in Show and $3,500.

Wildcard competitor Chris Pilling earned an honourable mention for taking home the Iconic Shot prize for a monochrome image of the tree island in the Garbanzo Zone of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park.

Enter to win pass for two to Whistler Writers Festival

The Whistler Writers Festival wants your ideas for new reading events, workshops, or suggestions of authors for future festivals.

The festival is drawing for an all-inclusive reading pass for two to this year's festival, which takes place from Oct. 13 to 16. The winning entry will also receive two nights' accommodation at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, where many of the festival events are taking place.

In 2015, suggestions included getting authors Emma Donoghue, Cathie Borrie and R.J. McMillen to attend the 2016 festival — organizers have been successful at securing all three.

Other requests carried out included bringing in more children's and young adult authors — with Susan Juby, Richard Van Camp and Kenneth Oppel also attending this year.

The competition closes on Sept. 23.

Applying artists must be members of Music BC.

The deadline to apply is Sept. 30.
