In just a few weeks, Whistler will no longer be a one gas-station town.

As part of the highly anticipated Rainbow Plaza, Chevron is expected to open the community’s second gas station just in time for Christmas.

"We anticipate having it open around the 15th of December," said Chevron spokesperson Adrien Byrne.

Preliminary plans for the 223-square-metre site include four fuel dispensers with two nozzles each, a convenience store, an electric charging station and a Tesla charging station. The station will also offer diesel, as well as 94 octane fuel for high-performance vehicles.

“I think this new station, providing the alternative services that it does … will be a real benefit and an alternative to the long lineups out of Whistler during the busy season,” said Byrne. “Plus, another real benefit to locals in Whistler will be the competition for products. Competition is always good.”

While it will be branded as a Chevron location, the service station will be owned and operated by a local franchisee, while Alberta-based Parkland Fuel Corporation will be the wholesale fuel provider.

Both companies are looking forward to becoming a key part of the community, Byrne said.

“We have approximately 170 gas stations across B.C. and we like to engage with the communities where we have operations,” he said. “We’ll be looking to partner with Parkland Fuel Corporation on some interesting social investments in Whistler.”

The Rainbow Plaza, which will include 65 rental units along with a Loblaws and 2,230 square metres of total commercial space, is slated to open by late spring 2016.
