This is about the time of year when New Year's resolutions begin to drop off like those pounds you meant to shed.

But wait! If your goal for 2013 was to give improv — and all of its advertised benefits —a whirl, you're in luck. Local performance workshop company Little Bear Productions is teaching three different improv classes, one for kids ages five to 12, another for teens 13 to 18 and the third for adults 19 and up.

The workshops teach communications skills, teamwork and acting, among other benefits, according to the company. Ira Pettle, who has studied musical theatre at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts as well as the Second City School of Improvisation Conservatory, will teach the Monday classes, running now until March 11 at Millennium Place. For more information or to book online visit littlebearproductions.vpweb.ca.

Newspaper archives digitized

The Whistler Museum and Archives has launched an online exhibit of the defunct underground newspaper the Whistler Answer. The paper was published from 1977 to 1982 and 1992 until 1993 as the community's "alternative voice."

"Few publications could have managed to fit in so much censor-maddening drugs, nudity and profanity while maintaining such a consistently hilarious and good-natured tone," the museum and archives say in a release.

Museum staff came up with the idea to digitize the paper after a conversation with former Answer editor, Charlie Doyle back in 2011.

UBC's Irving K. Barber Learning Centre funded the project, which can be viewed now at whistlermuseum.org/whistleranswer.

Movie series announced

The Whistler Arts Council unveiled the line-up for its Monthly Movie Series, which is set to begin Jan. 30 and run until June.

"You cannot see these in the commercial movie theatres and they are currently not available online or at rental shops," WAC's executive director Doti Niedermayer says in a release.

A six-film "punch card" is currently on sale at Millennium Place for $36. Card-holders can use it to see all six films or bring along friends to any one screening. Tickets are also available at the door for $8. First up: a 2011 documentary called Bully that delves into America's bullying crisis. For a complete list visit artswhistler.com.

Burlesque life drawing classes

Dr. Sketchy Burlesque Life Drawing is re-launching its eccentric art classes Jan. 21 at the Whistler Brewing Company.

Just as the name suggests, the event features a model dressed in burlesque garb posing for budding artists to sketch. It also (usually) includes a performance, along with music, food and drinks. Bring a pencil and paper and check out the first session beginning at 7 p.m. and running until 10 p.m. The first model: Ace Mackay-Smith. Tickets are $12 at the door.
