New principal at Signal Hill Elementary

Leadership at schools throughout the Sea to Sky corridor will look a little different this year when classes start on Sept. 7.

Leadership at schools throughout the Sea to Sky corridor will look a little different this year when classes start on Sept. 7.

At least four schools between Squamish and Pemberton are welcoming new principals and vice-principals to their staff, said Rick Erickson, superintendent of School District 48.

The shuffle starts at Signal Hill Elementary School, where Lisa Bartlett will join the school as the new principal. Previously, Bartlett has worked as the vice-principal for Whistler Secondary School. She replaces Patricia MacKenzie as the new school head.

Following Bartlett's departure, Stuart Bent has been hired as the new vice- principal for Whistler Secondary School.

Bent comes from Howe Sound Secondary School, where he has worked as vice principal for the past eight years.

"Getting back to a smaller school for me is going to be really neat," said Bent. "I am going to spend a semester getting to know the parents, staff and students. The job is so much about people, so that will be my goal, and I'll worry about making changes later on."

And Pemberton Secondary School will also see a management change.

Krista Bowes, who used to work as a high school teacher, has been hired as the school's new vice-principal.

Erickson said he is looking forward to the school year ahead.

He added that parents and students should check out School District 48's website as they prepare to return to school.

The website includes information on bus schedules, school supplies and contact information and can be found at www.sd48.bc.ca .
