A new taxi company, called Whistler Resort Cabs, is applying to the Motor Carrier Commission for a licence to operate in the resort.
Michael Hutchinson asked council on Monday night for support of his company.
He compared transportation in the resort to computer bandwidth. If internal transportation is constricted in the community then the speed of commerce is effectively slowed down, he said.
Currently there is only one taxi operator in town.
Council deferred giving Whistler Resort Cabs a letter of support until the operator of the existing taxi company has a chance to speak at the next council meeting, if they so choose.
