The new board of trustees of the Whistler Public Library was introduced at the library’s annual general meeting Feb. 3. Sharon Broatch, Dallas Cristofoli, Annette DeKraker, Anne Fenwick, Jane Finlayson, Betty McWhinnie, Alix Nicoll, Dagmar Roth and Jennifer Villard were appointed to the board by Whistler council. Councillor Kristi Wells continues as the municipal representative for the library. The Pemberton and District Public Library is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a tea on Saturday, Feb. 6. The tea takes place between 2 and 4 p.m., with a cake cutting at 3 p.m. There will be prizes, snacks and goodies throughout the day. The Pemberton Library is also hosting Listen With Your Heart, a workshop in discovering and preserving life stories, on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Pemberton Community Centre. Vera Rosenbluth, author of Keeping Family Stories Alive, Classic Scrapbooking and Last Dance, a program about palliative care that was broadcast on CBC Radio’s Ideas, will be leading the workshop. Topics to be covered include: the value of family stories, preparing for the interview, stimulating memory and asking appropriate questions, special considerations in palliative care situations, scrapbooking for stories and technical tips for taping interviews. The workshop is $15, including lunch and the book Keeping Family Stories Alive. Pre-registration is required. Call the library at 894-6916. It was a road worth travelling for former Ontario resident Michelle McDonald when she won $50,000 instantly on a BC Road to Riches Scratch and Win. The lucky ticket was purchased at the Whistler Husky station. McDonald, a snowboarding enthusiast plans on taking a "small" vacation and with her winnings, and will invest the remainder.
