Restaurateur John Grills was honoured with Whistler’s Business Person of the Year award at Wednesday’s Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
Grills, who owns Zeuski’s, Thai One On and Olé Mole Cantina, was presented with the award by last year’s winner, David Roberts of the Chateau Whistler.
Grills is a long-time Whistler resident who worked for a number of other local restaurants and food service operations before starting his own restaurants.
Not a band-aid solution
The Whistler Health Care Centre has seen so many people use its facilities that it is extending its hours.
The centre is now open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
The added hours are in response to the tremendous increase in volumes of service, says Paul Burrows, health care centre chairman.
Annual emergency visits are projected to be 21,000 this year. That's 30 per cent more than they were two years ago.
But service doesn't stop when the centre's closed.
People requiring after-hours emergency care can still go to the centre to use the telephone hotline to talk to the doctor on call.
Fun in any language
After its first and very successful winter season, the Board Sports ski and snowboard lesson program will offer its daily lessons in Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
The program is jointly run by Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains through the Dual Mountain Program.
Direct sales lines are operating in all three languages, too.
For assistance in Japanese, call 932-8683; in Korean, call 932-8673; and in Chinese, call 932-8692.
Lights, camera, cue the mountains
The Sea to Sky Film Committee is seeking five new volunteer members to work the coming year on film related initiatives in the Sea to Sky Corridor.
The committee was formed in 1995 to promote the corridor as a film location, provide advice to communities in the region, and develop standardised policy.
There are 12 community appointments.
If you have an interest in filming and a willingness to participate in regular meetings and events, phone the Sea to Sky Economic Development Commission in Squamish at 892-5467, by Nov. 19.
