No cause identified for power outage

Power restored to most homes within two hours

Some 2,112 customers were left without power early Saturday evening, June 4, at the bottom of Lorimer Rd. when an underground transformer blew out at 4:14 p.m.

BC Hydro is still investigating the incident, which tripped the circuit for the entire area with just 45 minutes to go before the start of the Vancouver Canucks game - and just less than nine hours after the area was used by the North Face Whistler Half Marathon.

Nearby residents heard a bang or pop before the transformer blew, but BC Hydro said there was no risk to the public.

BC Hydro was able to restore electricity to most of those homes within two hours, but between 10 and 15 customers were left without power until the transformer could be replaced and activated at 11:23 p.m. that evening.

There was a scheduled outage to replace equipment in nearby Whistler Cay on May 26 that affected 40 homes, but the two outages are not related.
