One more candidate to consider

Just one hour before nominations closed on candidates running in the provincial election, Barbara Ann Reid joined the fray in the West Vancouver-Garibaldi Electoral District for the B.C. Conservative Party.

Reid could not be reached for comment before deadline on Wednesday.

She is listed at the Treasurer of the party on the B.C. Conservative website, www.bcconservatives.ca .

The leader of the party is Barry Edward Chilton. Six other Conservative candidates are running throughout the province.

Party Media Liaison John Warren said the party is proposing a high-speed rail service between Whistler and Vancouver, among other things. This is a better solution he said than the $600 million highway upgrades.

ÒWe think itÕs much better to double track rail up to Whistler and put trains going back and forth,Ó he said.

ÒThat'll keep the cars out of Whistler to start with.Ó

While the conservatives are powerful in other provinces, the party has only had a small but dedicated following in B.C. in recent decades.   As a small party, the B.C. Conservatives are publicly backing the Single Transferable Vote system.

The last time a Conservative MP was elected was 1975.

Nominations for the provincial election closed at 1 p.m. on Wednesday May 4.
