One person is dead following a head-on collision between two vehicles near the Callaghan Forest Service Road this morning, according to Whistler RCMP.

The call came in around 9 a.m. this morning, said Whistler RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair.

"One vehicle went off the roadway and caught fire with the driver trapped inside. The driver of this vehicle is deceased," LeClair said.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.

"We have officers at the scene, and other officers are en route to conduct the collision investigation," LeClair said.

The highway was shut down in both directions for most of the day, but was reopened to traffic around 4 p.m.

Whistler Fire Rescue Service (WFRS) crews also attended the scene to put out the burning vehicle.

"When our crews arrived the pickup truck was fully involved, and they extinguished the fire," said Chris Nelson of the WFRS.

RCMP are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the collision contact Sea to Sky Traffic Services at 604 892-6100.

More to come.
