Open call for 2007 Battle of the Bands

Bands are going to have more room to flail on guitars, rip into drum sets and holler out on mics with the second annual Battle of the Bands moving house, from playing in a skateboard half pipe in the MY Millennium Place basement to the wide-open stage of Rainbow Theatre.

The reason for the venue change? Battle organizers didn’t expect the numbers they received at last year’s competition, where more than 30 bands stepped up to the mic.

“Last year’s Battle of the Bands was awesome!” said Steige Turner of hip hop sensation Animal Nation, which placed second in last year’s competition.

The wordplay nation was asked to MC the event, but Animal Nation declined. They had more important things to do like getting up on stage as one of this year’s competitors.

Who would want to miss out on a chance to play to a crowd like last year’s that moshed and hollered until their voices went hoarse?

Battle of the Bands is an electric time both on and off the stage.

Emerging bands, MCs and soloists are invited to compete with a minimum of two original songs and a 20-minute set.

Not only do participants get to enjoy exposure and a music-stoked crowd, but they also compete for bragging rights as 2007 Battle of the Bands top dog, which comes with live air play on Mountain FM, an opening show at Merlin’s and a music-supply gift certificate.

Battle of the Bands competition dates include Wednesday, Feb. 28, Thursday, March 1 and Friday, March 2 at the Rainbow Theatre in the Telus Conference Centre.

Registration for the LUNA run event is $15. To register, call Kate at 604-938-7394.
