Pass the Peace is the theme of Whistler's 2012 peace celebrations.

The United Nations' International Day of Peace is Sept. 21, and the resort will mark it in Celebrations Plaza with a candlelight ceremony, lighting the World Peace Flame, and music from the Whistler Singers and Children's Chorus.

This kicks off a week of festivities, with Whistler Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden officially proclaiming Sept. 21 to 27 as a Week of Peace in Whistler

"People suffer from loneliness, unhappiness, all these things, and how do we really connect? It's really for me about connecting," said organizer Caterina Alberti.

One highlight of the week, she said, is the participation of Peace it Together, a group from Vancouver which brings together Israeli, Palestinian and Canadian Youth in filmmaking and confronting difficult issues. They are presenting a film and workshop on Tues. Sept. 25.

Alberti said she welcomes new volunteers and can be reached by email at crossovercoaching@gmail.ca.
