Whistler photographer Erin Hogue has put a series of her summer and winter landscapes on sale online to raise money for a program to teach photography to 15 Mt. Currie teens. The course culminates in an art show in Whistler next summer.
Hogue, who is running "Giving Youth a Voice" with the Mount Currie Health Centre, wants to start the five-week course in May. She said young people from outside Mt. Currie are also welcome to take part.
"The health centre has a program that they do every Friday night and it gets a lot of participation because there's not a lot to do in Mt. Currie, and it's for primarily aboriginal youth," she said.
The prints, which can be seen at www.erinhogue.com, range in price from $30 to $300, depending on the size of the print and what it is printed on.
Those wanting to learn more about taking part in the program can email email@example.com.
'A Christmas Carol' reading at Whistler Library
Scrooge, Marley and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future will get an airing when their story is read at the Whistler Public Library on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Organizer Heather Paul said she had recruited "10 or 12" long-time Whistler members of the arts and writing community to take part, including Paul, Pique columnists GD Maxwell and Michel Beaudry, Cheryl and Vincent Massey. Scrooge will be read by Ro Davies.
"Max is Marley, we figured he should be a dire warning," Paul said, wryly. "Mike Varrin is playing Mrs. Cratchit and Kirby Brown is playing Bob Cratchit. I knew they always wanted to marry each other and be together forever, so..."
She said it would be an animated reading.
Admission is free, but people are asked to bring a donation for the Whistler Food Bank.
