Punk Night thanks supporters with free show

It’s the most consistent live music night in town.

What: The Punk Night featuring tim. and Half Cut

Where: Boot Pub

When: Sunday, June 20

A weekly dose of punk and hardcore flavoured with metal, emo or edgy indie-rock. For the anti-club crowd it’s become like church, a weekly Sunday event guaranteed to draw people that have a similar view of the world.

And organizers Lindsay Shedden and Chris Jones (Jonesy and Lindsay to their friends and fans) know all too well the night couldn’t continue without the dedicated local congregation.

To say thank you they’ll be celebrating the punk rock way – with a free show this Sunday night featuring long-time Vancouver punk band tim. and Edmonton whiskey-rockers Half Cut. Tim. are flying on the release of new album Devil’s Wings and will be shooting music video footage barring the health of their BMX-er cameraman who recently injured his ankle.

The show will also be an anniversary celebration for Jonesy and Lindsay. It was just about one year ago the dynamic duo teamed with local promotion company Mountain Promotions to revive the long-running night. Mountain split from The Punk Night last winter but Jonesy and Lindsay are still here.

"The bands are stoked," said Shedden of the night’s growing reputation. "It’s basically the feel of an all-ages show with a bar-aged crowd.

"This show is a thanks to all the local rockers that come out to all the shows."

Frenetics bring along Vancouver’s Best

Who: The Frenetics with Billy & The Lost Boys and Mr. Plow

Where: Boot Pub

When: Thursday, June 24

The Frenetics sure know how to pick ’em.

The Montreal punk band will be accompanied by not one, but two category winners in the Georgia Straight’s 2004 Straight Music Awards at their Whistler show on Thursday night.

Warming up the Boot Pub first will be "Best Vancouver Male Artist" Mr. Plow, part of the Cobalt’s Acoustic Chaos foul-mouthed folk-punk crew. Following him is effervescent punk trio Billy & The Lost Boys, two time honourees this year as "Best Vancouver Band" and having the "Best Vancouver Album."

The Frenetics are on tour in support of brand new album Grey Veins to the Parking Lot , their second full-length effort following 2001’s These Mistakes Took Years of Practice.
