Local police are asking the public for any information into repeated vandalism to a railway fence in Function Junction.
The fencing located in the 1400 block of Alpha Lake Road has sustained $4,500 in damage since being installed in September at CN Rail’s request.
“Unknown culprit(s) have repeatedly cut and damaged a chain link fence erected by the Resort Municipality of Whistler across the railway line,” read an RCMP release last week.
Installation of the fence and gates was required to comply with Transport Canada and CN Rail regulations and allows the RMOW to access a municipal sewer line. Access to the site, which has been a popular area with hikers and dog walkers, is restricted to municipal employees.
Last month police issued a warning after the site was vandalized on two separate occasions. Any repairs to the fence will be done by the municipality at a cost to local taxpayers.
