Police are still looking for information that will lead them to a cyclist who hit an elderly woman in the village and fled the scene.
The hit and run took place on the afternoon of July 26 on the Village Stroll near Skier’s Approach. A youth of approximately 16 years of age was apparently moving through the pedestrian traffic on a BMX bike at high speeds when he ran into the woman, who fell and hit the back of her head on the walkway.
She was taken to the health care centre, and released the same afternoon with a bump on her head. "If anyone wonders why we have a bylaw prohibiting cycling and skateboarding in the village, this is it," said Constable Ray Bernoties.
It appears that the cyclist attempted to help the woman, but he fled the scene when some angry members of the crowd tried to restrain him. He wriggled out of his T-shirt and ran. Some members of the crowd gave chase, and during the confusion the cyclist’s friends retrieved his bike and knapsack and fled in a different direction.
The cyclist was wearing dark pants and a gray T-shirt, is deeply tanned and has blond hair which was possibly dyed. There was some bruising on the left side of his neck.
