RCMP working with U.S. authorities on alleged credit card fraud case

Whistler police are working with authorities south of the border to track down the source of an alleged large-scale credit card fraud, reported last Tuesday, March 4.

"It looks like some potentially fraudulent credit cards were used to book vacation packages up here, including lodging and recreation, that we're investigating and that originated in the United States," said RCMP Sgt. Rob Knapton.

Police would not indicate the total estimated value of the bookings, but said it was "substantial."

Whistler woman allegedly assaults, threatens police officer

What started out as a bylaw ticket for drinking in public is likely to turn into much more serious charges after a Whistler woman allegedly kicked and threatened an RCMP officer on Saturday, March 8.

Just after 1 a.m., an RCMP officer stopped the 30-year-old woman on the Village Stroll with a half-full pitcher of beer. While being issued a ticket, the female allegedly kicked the officer. A small amount of marijuana was also seized from the woman, who was taken to the detachment for processing, where she reportedly uttered threats against the officer.

Police are recommending charges of assault, uttering threats and possession of marijuana against the woman, said Knapton.

Whistler man arrested for reportedly assaulting woman at village bar

A 21-year-old Whistler man was arrested Monday, March 10 after police received reports that he assaulted a woman at a village bar in Mountain Square.

Police received the report around 1:30 a.m. and said it appears that bar staff intervened to stop the assault while it was in progress. No injuries were reported, Knapton said.

Man struck after being accused of panhandling

A man standing outside the 7-Eleven on Main Street Saturday was reportedly assaulted by a suspect, who accused him of panhandling in front of the convenience store, said the RCMP.

"It looks like somebody was standing around outside and got accused of panhandling, and then was hit and shoved to the ground," Knapton said.

The suspect had left the scene by the time police arrived, and the investigation is ongoing, Knapton added.

Man found camping in resident's yard

Police are on the lookout for a suspect who was reportedly found camping in the yard of an unwitting Whistler resident last Wednesday, March 5.

The man had reportedly been camping out next to an outdoor hot tub at a home on Timber Ridge Road. By the time RCMP attended, however, the suspect was gone, Knapton said.

Police seized some property that was left at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.

Single-vehicle crash on Highway 99 likely due to speed, poor weather

Speed and icy road conditions are believed to have played a factor in a single-vehicle accident last Thursday, March 6, on Highway 99 near Function Junction.

Police said the vehicle was travelling northbound when it lost control, striking a barrier and spinning into the southbound lane.

BC Ambulance treated the vehicle's occupant following the crash. RCMP did not know the extent of the driver's injuries.

Watches reported stolen from village business

Seven watches were reported stolen from a business on the Village Stroll last Tuesday, March 4, and police continue to search for a suspect or group of suspects.

RCMP Sgt. Rob Knapton said police are unsure if the items were stolen in a single theft, or over the course of several incidents.
