Ski for Literacy Feb. 16 The CFL All Star Team, the world Powder 8 champions, Valdy and various media and sports celebrities will be on Whistler Mountain with WHERE Magazines, the Vancouver Sun, The Province, Sports Only, Maclean Hunter and Quebecor Printing Feb. 16 for the second annual Ski For Literacy. For $100 you too can get in on the team races, coaching, lunch, an apres ski reception and prizes. Net proceeds go to support the work of Literacy B.C. and ABC Canada. Athans camp benefits Children’s Hospital Former world mogul skiing champion Greg Athans is coming to Blackcomb next weekend for the fifth annual Greg Athans/Red Robin Children’s Hospital Ski Camp. The camp, Feb. 24-25, includes two days of instruction from world and national freestylers, racers, instructors and snowboarders, two days of lift tickets, breakfast and lunch at the Chateau Whistler each day, two apres-ski parties and a chance to demo the 1997 Rossignol skis and snowboards. The cost of the camp is $325 and 100 per cent of that money goes directly to the Children’s Hospital. A tax-deductible receipt for $200 is also issued. Last year $30,000 was raised for Children’s Hospital. The list of instructors includes Felix Belczyk, John Eaves, Wayne Wong, Gary Athans, Darryl Bowie, Greg Lee, Judy MacIntosh, Jacques Morel, Meg Davies, John Kindree and many others. To register call Greg at 873-6650 or pick up a registration form at the Blackcomb Ski School. Squamish and Whistler area residents raised $9,308 during the 1995 Christmas Seal Campaign for the B.C. Lung Association. The corridor communities contributed to the $1.57 million raised across the province. The Lung Association’s goal was $1.6 million. The Lung Association funds medical research, information programs and the B.C. Asthma Centre with the money raised.
