Re-Use-It by end of November It was supposed to open this spring, then by the end of November but Whistler’s Re-Use-It centre should now be up and running in Function Junction by Christmas time. Acting director of public works, Brian Barnett told council at its Oct. 18 meeting construction is due to start on the building this week. He said it will be built, off-site, in the Lower Mainland. The centre comes with a price tag in the region of $112,000. The simple 1,500 square-foot rectangular Re-Use-It building will be installed in a cleared area near the Function compactor and recycling igloos. It will be a place people can donate used clothing, household items and smaller pieces of furniture — things too good to throw away — that will then be sold at bargain basement prices. The Re-Use-It Centre will be operated by the Whistler Community Services Society. Funds raised from the thrift store operation will be used to create new WCSS programs and expand old ones. The centre will be both a venue the community can drop off unwanted items and a valuable resources for those on a shoe-string budget looking for clothing, household supplies and furniture.
