The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is hosting an information session today, Feb.23, on the 2016 municipal budget that will be open to all residents, business owners and resort partners.

Scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Maury Young Arts Centre, the meeting is a chance to learn more about this year’s draft budget process and the goals identified in the RMOW's 2016 Corporate Plan.

“Council and staff have worked diligently to deliver a draft budget that balances operational demands with municipal revenue and contributions to reserves,” said Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden in a release. “The meeting is an opportunity for citizens to learn about the organization, corporate and budget planning processes, key factors affecting our plans, and major projects and focus areas for 2016. I invite everyone to attend to have a better understanding of where we are now as a community and where we are going.”

In November, municipal council outlined its priorities for the 2016 Corporate Plan, which include:

-Community well-being and affordability

-The accommodation mix for visitors and residents

-Transportation planning

-Environmental initiatives

-Maintaining focus on visitation and resort growth

-Partnership opportunities with the resort, the region and beyond

-Continued focus on “prudent fiscal management” and using the Corporate Plan as a “foundational strategic road map”

Attendees will be able to meet with members of council and municipal staff from 4 p.m. and will also hear a short presentation at 5 p.m. from the RMOW’s top administrator, CAO Mike Furey, on last year’s budget, corporate planning and priorities for 2016 and the factors affecting this year’s draft.

The draft budget guidelines will be presented at the March 1st meeting of council, with the budget bylaw expected for adoption by April 5.
