The municipality is searching for a new general manager of environmental services.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Resort Municipality of Whistler posted a job advertisement on its website, www.whistler.ca , for the senior position previously held by Brian Barnett.
It is unclear at this time whether Barnett has been let go, resigned, or is on leave of absence. The municipality's communications department declined to comment on the issue.
"It is the RMOW's policy to not discuss matters regarding personnel," said Julia Waring, a communications officer.
Barnett, a licensed engineer, worked with the municipality for more than 10 years. Some of the recent projects he oversaw as general manager of environmental services included paving the day skier lots, building the Fitzsimmons Creek debris barrier, and the construction of the compost facility.
Barnett received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1987 and is currently listed as a practicing member with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists in B.C. He is also active with the British Columbia Waste and Water Association, where he served on the board of directors in 2008.
The general manager of environmental services reports to Bill Barratt, chief administrative officer, and is responsible for engineering, utilities, central services, roads, garage, wastewater treatment and environmental stewardship programs at the municipality.
Dennie Wood, general manager of human resources for the municipality, said the municipality's hiring policy for a general manager is similar to that for other jobs.
"As with any position in our organization, especially a permanent full time position, human resources and a panel of selected individuals as per that position would be part of the hiring process," said Wood.
"There would be a pre-screened short list and a very detailed and specific interview process, usually with two interviews and some testing."
The municipality is accepting applications for the job until Aug. 30, 2009.
Barnett did not return calls.
